In de nacht van 20 op 21 Juli 1944 stort te op deze plek de Engelese Lancaster Mk III Bommenwerper ND913 A4-M met de bijnaam "Popeye" neer. De 7 bemanningsleden zuin hierbij om het leven gekomen. De Lancaster en haar bemanning behoorde bij het 115 Sqn van
Translation "On the night of July 20 to 21 1944, English Lancaster Bomber Mk III ND913 A4-M with the nickname "Popeye" crashed at this place. The 7 crew members died as a result. The Lancaster and its crew belonged to 115 Sqn RAF " |

Operation | Homberg- Meerbeck oil plant. 158 aircraft (149 Lancasters and 11 Mosquitoes) of which 20 Lancasters were downed, mainly due to night-fighter activity. Caused severe damage to the plant, resulting in output dropping from 6000 tones of fuel per day to as little as 120. The 8th Air Force also hit this target. |
