Miscellaneous Information
William was born on 21 December 1922 at Birch Hills, Saskatchewan. His father was a farmer and was born in Cambridgeshire, England and his mother was born at Fort Lacombe. His mother sadly died in 1924. He had two married sisters. The schools he attended were Coolidge (Public) 1929-1939 and Birch Hills 1939-1941 (grade 11, Jnr. Matric). His favourite sports were softball and racing. William worked mainly at home on the family farm but also worked at Hobbs Glass Co,, Vancouver as a glass polisher 1941-1942 until enlisting on 27 March 1942. |
After training he embarked from Canada on 16 May 1943 arriving in the U.K. on 24. May 1943 at 3PRC. He then went to 15 AFU on 29 June 1943, 19 OTU on 5 October 1943, 61 Base 17 January 1944 and 138 Squadron on 18 February 1944. William sadly was to lose his life on 4 March 1944. |
