Miscellaneous Information
George was born on 19 April 1922 at Summerberry, Saskatchewan. His father was born at Henley, England and was a farmer and his mother was born at Glen Clouden, Scotland. He had two brothers, William and R/155809 James King RCAF (Overseas). He also had a married sister Jeanie Ellen. He attended Summerberry school, Saskatchewan 1928-1935 (grade 8) and again in 1935-1939 (grade 12), His hobby was shooting and the sports he took part in were baseball, football and swimming. George worked at home as a farm labourer with his father William King from 1939 until enlistment on 29 November 1941. |
After training he embarked from New York on 23 November 1942 and arrived at 3 PRC on 1 December 1942. He was then at 3 (0)AFU 13 April 1943, 30 OTU 10 May 1943, 1651 CU 23 July 1943, and 218 Squadron 18 August 1943. George very sadly lost his life the following month on 22 September 1943. |

Operation | Hanover- the first of four large raids. 711 aircraft, 26 losses (3.7%). Five American B-17s also took part. Visibility was good but strong winds hampered the marking efforts and consequently the bombing by the main force. No local report is available but it is unlikely that significant damage was caused. |
