A British citizen who was born and brought up in the Caribbean and enlisted in RCAF. He had been living in Canada before enlisting and had obtained a BSc from McGill University, Montreal. |
Louis was born on 26 December 1919 at St.Augustine, Trinidad, British West Indies and lived in Miramichi, St.Augustine. His father was born in British Guiana, now retired (died 24 December 1942) and his mother was born in Mauritius. He had two sisters Edna Gertrude Kerr who lived in Santa Cruz, San Juan, Trinidad and Louie May Florence Lyndon Kerr. Louis went to a private school in Trinidad 1923-1928 (Primary) Queen’s Royal College, Trinidad, 1928-1935 (4 years High School) Harrison College, Barbados, British West Indies 1935-1937 (Jnr./ Snr Matric) Imperial College, Trinidad 1937-1940 (Agricultural course)*, followed in 1940-1941 by an agricultural course at MacDonald College, St.Anne de Bellevue, Province of Quebec. (*He was awarded a Diploma making him a ‘Diplomat of the Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture’ in Trinidad. Louis’s previous service had been at O.T.C. Harrison College, Barbados, B.W.I. Cadet September 1935-June 1937. He was also in the 3rd. Reserve Battalion, Trinidad October 1938-June 1939. He worked at MacDonald college between June and September 1941 as a lab assistant in Entomology until enlisting on 9 October 1941. After enlisting and training Louis Embarked from Canada on 27 October 1942, arrived U.K. at 3 PRC on 5 November 1942, 4 AOS 8 March 1943, 24 OTU 20 April 1943, 1663 CU 10 July 1943, and 76 Squadron 17 August 1943. He lost his life a little over a month afterwards. His sport interests were swimming, hunting and fishing and photography was his hobby. |
Sgt J R Dennis, the mid-upper gunner was badly injured in the crash but German soldiers gave him immediate first aid before he was transferred to hospital. Later, a German surgeon battled to save his life and rebuilt his shattered legs. A shining example of compassion during conflict. |

Operation | Hanover- the first of four large raids. 711 aircraft, 26 losses (3.7%). Five American B-17s also took part. Visibility was good but strong winds hampered the marking efforts and consequently the bombing by the main force. No local report is available but it is unlikely that significant damage was caused. |
