Miscellaneous Information
Edward was born on 6 October 1918 at Espanola, Ontario. His father who worked as a paper maker, was born at Glenwood, Wisconsin, USA and is shown as an American citizen and his mother was born at Sturgeon Falls, Ontario. He attended the Sacred Heart school at Espanola 1925-1928, St. Thomas, Sudbury, Ontario 1928, St. Andrews, Port Arthur 1928-1934 and then at the Collegiate Institute, Port Arthur 1934-1939. The sports he enjoyed were rugby, skating, rowing and swimming. Between 1939-1940 Edward worked as a Druggist Apprentice at Port Arthur and then enlisted on 3 June 1941. His enlistment form has the 'Oath taken' section crossed out, suggesting that no oath was taken, yet he was not a US citizen despite his father's citizenship. |
After training Edward embarked from Canada for the U.K. on 30 April 1942 and arrived at 3 PRC on 13 May. He then went to 20 OTU on 15 June 1942, 149 conversion flight 8 September 1942, 1657 CU 3 October 1942, 218 Squadron 23 October 1942. Sadly, Edward sadly lost his life on 6 November. |
