Miscellaneous Information
Born 5 May 1917 in Blean, Kent. |
During a previous operation over Essen, on 10/11 April 1942, his 15 Sqn Stirling N3703 (flying with different crew members than his fateful crash) was damaged by flak. The crew succeeded in regaining their base but were prevented from making an immediate landing by other aircraft continuing to take off, disobeying watch office instructions . The captain made a second circuit but the engines cut out (the oil supply pipe had been holed by the flak) and the aircraft crashed into a gypsy encampment at Godmanchester.
