Reason for Loss | Encountered severe turbulence over Myddfai, near Llandovery in the Brecon Beacons. Four servicemen bailed out but Sgt Jones was injured whilst making his escape and died later the same day. A small plaque exists in Myddfai Parish Church to commemorate his loss. The remaining three aircrew remained on board the aircraft which subsequently made a successful emergency landing at RAF Fairwood Common, on the Gower Penninsula near Swansea (still in use today as Swansea Airfield). |
