Douglas was born on 20 June 1919 in Birmingham. On 16th April 1940, the Squadron went to France, to Nantes/Bougon. At the beginning of June 1940, the Squadron was ordered to return to the UK. On Sunday, 17th June 1940, the remaining Squadron personnel of fourteen officers and two hundred and thirty other ranks left St. Nazaire harbour on the H M T Lancastria. 98 Squadron lost seventy five airmen and probably another fifteen, who were reported missing. |

Reason for Loss | On the 17/06/1940 the RMS Lancastria was bombed and sunk in St Nazaire while taking part in Operation Ariel the evacuation of British nationals and troops from France two weeks after the Dunkirk evacuation. The victim is one of the ninety six members from 98 squadron. |
