Miscellaneous Information
Phillip was born at Burnt River, Ontario on 2 March 1918. His father worked as a labourer and was born in Yorkshire and his mother was born at Burnt River. The schools he attended were Burnt River S.S.#8. 1924-1931 Public, Lindsay Collegiate Institute 1931 -1933 and then again in 1935-1936. He also went to Fenelon Falls Continuation School 1933-1935 and again in 1936-1937. He took part in many different sports. Phillip worked in farming at Fenelon Falls 1937-1939 and then Bush work for John Carew at Lindsay and was a Brass Inspector at Dominion Arsenal, Lindsay from 1940 until enlisting on 29 April 1941. |
After training Phillip was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 24 January 1942. arriving at 3PRC on 10 February 1942. He went on to 13 OTU 23 June 1942, 24 OTU 25 August 1942, 1659 CU 23 November 1942, 419 Squadron 22 December 1942, 35 Squadron 28 January 1943, 419 Squadron 5 February 1943. Phillip was to lose his life from 419 Squadron on 30 May 1943. |

Operation | Wuppertal. 719 aircraft, 33 losses(4.6%). PFF target marking and the resultant main force bombing was especially accurate, leading to what was probably the first instance of a 'firestorm'. Five of the six largest factories in the town, 211 other industrial premises and almost 4000 homes were completely destroyed. Approximately 3400 deaths- five times greater than any other city raid. |
