Miscellaneous Information
Douglas was born at Montreal on 12 October 1914 in Montreal. His father was deceased by the time of Douglas's enlistment and his mother was born in Quebec. He had two siblings; a sister, unnamed, and a brother Edward Elgar Hughes. He attended Kensington Public School 1921-1926 and then West Hill High, 1926-1933. At Montreal Technical School he studied Aeronautics and Air Motors 1935-1936 and then at McGill Night school he studied Aeronautics and Ground Course between 1936-1937. The sports Douglas enjoyed were swimming, skiing, skating and tennis and as a hobby he enjoyed photography and making model aeroplanes. From 1937 onwards he was a bookkeeper at the Montreal Trust Company. |
After enlisting on 1 July 1940 and early training, he embarked from Canada on 8 June 1941 bound for the U.K. He arrived at 3PRC on 20 June 1941 then continued to 22 OTU on 22 June 1941, 104 Sqn on 22 August 1941. The remaining entriesd in his record are unclear. |
