Miscellaneous Information
Born 21 June 1915 in Toronto, Ontario. His father was a dress cutter and they lived at Harvard Avenue, Notre Dame de Grace, P Q., and later at Madison Avenue. His parents were both born in Toronto. He went by went by the names Bill or Billy rather than Maurice. He had three brothers, Gilbert, Frank, Alan, Douglas (also KIA in RCAF), Walter, Herbert. and a sister Anna, Inez, and his twin Marion Helen. He attended St. Leo’s Academy, Separate School 1924-1930, in Westmount P.Q, then D’Arcy McGee High School, Montreal, between 1930-1932. Maurice spent two years in St. Leo’s Cadet. Corps. Maurice was employed by a Frock maker in Montreal and worked for her as a cutter between 1932-1939 and as a manager of a farm resort at Airedale Farm, 1939-1941. |
His sporting interest were, skating, swimming and riding and painting was his hobby. |
After enlisting, Maurice departed from Halifax on 8 January 1942 and arrived at 3 PRC on 21 January, 16 OTU 22 April 1942, 14 OTU 5 May, 408 Squadron on 14 August 1942 and finally, 434 Squadron on 15 June 1943. He married Lilian Gladys Allinson at Bedale, Yorkshire on 26 April 1943 and they had a daughter, Marion Allinson Howard in April the following year. His wife was still living in the U.K. at his death. He never got to see his baby daughter. |

Operation | Mönchengladbach/ Rheydt. 660 aircraft, 25 losses (3.8%). PFF marked Mönchengladbach first and then after a two minute pause, the neighbouring town of Rheydt. Good visibility and Oboe assistance made for extremely accurate marking and as a result the bombing was concentrated with little creepback. Approximately half of both towns was destroyed with 1059 and 1280 buildings destroyed in the two towns (respectively). |
