Miscellaneous Information
Roy was born on 31 August 1923 at Oshawa, Ontario. Both parents were born in England and his father was a Marine Operator. He had one sister Eileen May. He attended both Harriston Public and Oshawa Public Schools between 1929-1938, followed by Harriston High 1938-1941. In May 1942 he also attended a W.E.T.P course at Ontario Training College, Hamilton. His sport interests were hockey, baseball and swimming. Roy worked at Canada Packers, Harriston as a Shipper for two months in 1941 and then went to the McColl Frontenac Oil Company, Woodstock, Chatsworth, Ontario. as a Service Station manager during 1941-1942 when he then enlisted on 16 June 1942. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 14 December 1943 arriving at 3(RCAF)PRC on 22 December 1943. He then went on to 10 OTU on 1 February 1944, 41 Base 10 May 1944 and 635 Squadron on 29 July 1944. Sadly Roy was to lose his life from 635 Squadron on 12 September 1944. |

Operation | Scholven-Buer synthetic oil plant. Part of a 412 aircraft attack on three oil plants- Dortmund, Scholven-Buer and Wanne-Eickel. The Dortmund raid was a particularly successful one but smoke screens prevented observation of the other two. 7 losses in all. |
