Miscellaneous Information
| John was born at Thamesford, Ontario on 13 December 1921. Both parents were born in Ontario, his father - a farmer- at Thamesford (deceased by the time of John's enlistment), and his mother at Lakeside. He had two brothers Ronald and George and sisters Norma, Doris and Jean. The sports he enjoyed were hockey, baseball, rugby, lacrosse and basketball. He went to school in Thamesford from 1928-1934 and also between 1934 and 1939. John worked at Morrow Nut & Screw Co. at Ingersoll, then as a blueprint chaser for a few months. He was at Massey Harris, Toronto as a trucker during 1941 and then in Toronto as a tool chaser 1941-1942. |
| He enlisted on 11 August 1942 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 25 March 1944, reaching 3 RCAF(PRC) on 3 April 1944 going on to 6/(0) AFU 18 April 1944, 22 OTU 30 May 1944, and 432 Squadron 3 October 1944. Sadly John was to lose his life just twelve days later on 15 October 1944. |
