Miscellaneous Information
Norman was born on 21 May 1914 at the Township of Brant, in the County of Bruce, Ontario (usually shown as Cargill, Ontario). His father, a carpenter, was born at Normanby Township, Grey County and died 1937. His mother was born at Strathroy, Caradoc, Ontario. He had two brothers, Clarence and Samuel and three sisters - Lila, Florence, and a third sister Viola who died in 1911. He attended Port Elgin Public school and High School between 1935-1939 and the sports he enjoyed were badminton, swimming and most others. Reading was his hobby. Norman worked as a Hardware clerk in Port Elgin for five years between 1935 -1940. |
He enlisted on 20 June 1940 and after training was posted to the U.K. He arrived in England at 3PRC on 2 March 1941, and then went to 11 OTU 10 March 1941, and 214 Squadron on 14 May 1941. Norman sadly lost his life from there on 26 November 1941. |
