| Born 24 December 1913 in Manchester but lived in Liverpool prior to joining the RAF. Brother of Dorothy (1909-18) and Denis Hawxby (1911-41). |
| His Father, 7115 Company Sergeant Major Harold Hawxby, 16th Battalion Manchester Regiment, was killed 9 July 1916 in France. |
| His Brother Denis Hawxby was killed 2 May 1941 at The Pier Head, Liverpool, as a result of enemy action whilst volunteering as an ARP Ambulance Driver. |
| Tragically, Hilda lost her husband during WW1 (1916), her daughter Dorothy in 1918, her youngest son Noel in 1940 and finally her youngest son Denis in 1941, leaving her with no immediate family. |
