Miscellaneous Information
William was born on 9 August 1913 at Seaforth, Ontario. Both parents were born in Ontario- his father, who was an Accountant, in Brussels and his mother in Desoronto. He had a brother John Franklin and a sister Almada Mabel. He attended Tecumseh School 1918-1926 and London South Collegiate 1927-1933 (Snr.Matric). He was then at the University of Western Ontario between 1933-1937 (1 year Chemistry and 2 years Business, Commerce). The sports he played were basketball, tennis, golf, bowling and curling and he enjoyed music (and played the clarinet). William worked for Lawson Jones Ltd. of London, Ontario as did his father, where he was a clerk, 1937-1938 and then a salesman 1939-1940. He enlisted on 17 July 1940. |
After training he was sent to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 6 April 1941. He arrived at 3PRC on 19 April and then proceeded to 21 OTU on 3 May 1941, and 115 Squadron on 30 June 1941. Just over two weeks later on 16 July 1941, William sadly lost his life. |
