Translation "On July 12th, 1941, 61 British bombers took off for an attack on Bremen. On the way out, at 00:52 hrs, Hampden AE226 of 50 Sqn RAF was sighted by a German nightfighter and shot down" |
Miscellaneous Information
Awarded the BEM for saving the lives of 29154 Sqn Ldr John Nicholson JAQUES 29154 and 39376 Pilot Officer Byron Francis BURBRIDGE, pilot and co-pilot respectively of a Heyford K4871 of 50 Sqn which crashed and caught fire on approach to RAF Finningley on the night of March 29 1938. AC(1) Guest, as he then was, pulled both men to safety - the aircraft was on fire, and both had been knocked out. He was the Heyford's wireless-operator. His award was promulgated in June 1938 and he received the award that November. |
