| Memorial Text | A memorial to 75 (NZ) Sqn, RAF. Formed at RAF Feltwell in April 1940 and flew from there until June 1942. The Sqn number was presented to New Zealand becoming 75 Sqn RNZAF in October 1946 until its disbanding in December 2001. |
Miscellaneous Information
| Born in 1922 and a bricklayer by trade, he lived at Shirley Gorse, Pant and worked in the family business, Robert Griffiths and Sons. He had a sister, Margaret, and three brothers Ken, Don and Len. Some of his surviving family still live in Pant. |
| His Wing Commander wrote to his parents shortly after he was reported missing saying “what a fine brave lad Basil was and a very clever Flight Engineer.” His brothers Don and Len also served in World War II but thankfully both returned home safely. |
| A memorial in Pant village hall commemorates his life, along with 52038 P/O Llewellyn Roberts and four members of the local Home Guard. |
