Miscellaneous Information
Allan was born on 25 November 1913 at Togo, Saskatchewan. Both parents had been born in Ontario and his father, who was deceased by the time of Allan's enlistment, had been a farmer. He had two married sisters, Leila and Orpha and a third, Fanny had sadly died aged 11 years. He also had four brothers, James, Russell, R. Clayton and Austin. He attended Ralph Brown Public School 1922-1927, St. John High School 1927-1930, Winnipeg, followed by the University of Manitoba 1930-1931 (Arts). Allan enjoyed swimming, hockey and skating and his hobby was chemistry. He worked at the Codville Company in Winnipeg as a truck driver, 1932-1934, at Piggly Wiggly (Can) as a store manager, 1933-1935 and was then working as a Peace Officer with the R.C.M.P. 1935-1940. |
He enlisted on 11 September 1940. After initial training Allan was posted to the U.K. and arrived at 3PRC on 7 June 1941 and then went to 23 OTU 14 June 1941, 218 Squadron 31 August 1941, 40 Squadron 13 November 1941 and 156 Squadron on 14 February 1942. Just two months later, on 16 April 1942, Allan sadly lost his life . |
