Crash van Vickers Wellington Mk IC P9286 KO-K van 115 Sqn in de Groetpolder te Winkel. In de avond van 16 November 1940 steeg om 20.15 ur de Wellington bommenwerper op vanaf vliegveld Marham met als doelwit de stad Hamburg. Op de terugweg naar Engeland werd de bemanning volkomen verrast toen het midden in de nacht werd aangevallen door een Duits jachtvliegtuig. De Wellington stortte neer om 02.05 ur. Alle bemanningsleden kwamen om het leven.
Translation "Crash of Vickers Wellington Mk IC P9286 KO-K of 115 Sqn in the Groetpolder in Winkel. On the evening of November 16, 1940, the Wellington bomber took off from Marham airport at 8:15 p.m, targeting the city of Hamburg. On the way back to England, the crew was completely surprised when it was attacked in the middle of the night by a German fighter plane. The Wellington crashed at 02.05 hrs. All crew members lost their lives." |
