| Willis was born on 4 August 1919 at Regina, Saskatchewan. His father was born in Liverpool, England and was a Chartered Accountant and his mother was born in Hampton, Ontario. He had one brother, James Harry who was also with the RCAF overseas. He attended John Fisher school, Toronto 1925-1932 and then Northern Vocational 1932-1937 (Jnr. Matric ). Willis also studied a five year Chartered Accountant’s course at Queen’s University, Kingston 1937-1942. His sport interest was golf. Between 1937-1942 he was working with his father’s firm, W. Willis Gladwell as an audit clerk and then enlisted on 21 May 1942. |
| After initial training Willis was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 16 July 1943. After arriving at 3PRC on 23 July 1943 he went to 6 (0) AFU on 5 October 1943, 84 OTU on 16 November 1943, 31 Base 10 March 1944, 1653 CU 24 March 1944 and 15 Squadron on 25 May 1944. Sadly, Willis lost his life from 15 Squadron on 6 July 1944. |
| He married Ellen May Irwin at St. George’s United Church in Toronto on 15 May 1943, where Willis was a scout leader. The scouts formed a guard of honour (see photograph). |
