Miscellaneous Information
John was born at Highland Park, Detroit, Michigan, on 28 October 1922. His father was born at London, Ontario and worked as a Clerk, and his mother, deceased, was born in Dover, Kent, England. He attended Cerveny School 1929-1937 (General) and Cooley High 1938-1941 (General) Both in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated with High School Entrance. John worked as a shipping clerk for Montgomery Ward, in Detroit, 1940-1941 and then he enlisted. For sport he enjoyed playing baseball, football, and track. |
He enlisted on 3 July 1941 and after training embarked for the U.K. on 1 May 1942 where he arrived at 3PRC on 12 May 1942. He then went on to. 7 AGS. 20 June 1942, and 78 Squadron on 20 July 1942. Sadly this young man lost his life on 6 August 1942 at the age of nineteen. |
