MALTON ROAD CRASH Inquests on Five Men Opened Inquests were opened at York to-day on four soldiers and an airman who lost their lives a result of collision between an army lorry and a brewer's wagon on the York-Malton Road, near Flaxton Lane End on Thursday night. After identification and medical evidence the Coroner adjourned the inquest until November 26. The dead men were Driver Everard Folley, R.A., (27), Gunner Harold Edward Snape, R.A., (21), Lance-Bombardier Sidney Allen, R.A., (24), A.C.I. Donald Percy Vincent Gibb. R.A.P., (21), Gunner Edward R.A., (22). Captain David West. R.A.M.C., said that Folley, Snape and Gibb all died of broken necks, and Allen had fracture of the base the skull. Dr. M. J. Ellis said Lilley died the morning after the accident, from a fractured skull. (Yorkshire Evening Post - Saturday 15 November 1941) |
