Miscellaneous Information
Alexander was born at Angus, Ontario on 26 November 1919. Both parents were born in Russia and his father was a sausage manufacturer. He had two sisters, Ethel and Reva. The schools he attended were Clinton Street Public School 1925-1932, followed by Harbord Collegiate Institute 1932-1937. He then studied medicine at the University of Toronto between 1937-1940. Alexander worked as an office clerk for his father's company - H. Garalick at Bernholtz Union Sausage Company, 1940-1941. The sports he took part in were swimming, rugby, basketball and tennis. |
He enlisted on 11 August 1941 and after training was posted to the U.K. He arrived at 3 PRC on 10 October 1942, 22 OTU 10 November 1942 and 428 Squadron on 1 March 1943. The rest of the postings are unclear in his service records. Alexander was sadly to lose his life on 3 August 1943 from 428 Squadron . |

Operation | Hamburg. 740 aircraft, 30 losses (4.1%). The raid failed due to a large thunderstorm over the target. Many crews turned back of bombed alternative targets. At least four aircraft were Lost due to icing. No PFF marking took place and bombing was scattered as a result. Many nearby towns were bombed, particularly Elmshorn due to a house being struck by lightning and crews spotting the fire through the clouds. |
