Miscellaneous Information
William was born on 29 September 1921 at Newman, Idaho, USA. His father, a farmer/saw mill operator was born in South Dakota, USA and his mother was born at Rockford, Washington, USA. He had one young sister Josephine Lynne. He went to Gwynn school, Alberta 1928-1930 (grades 1-3) Cree Valley 1930- 1936 (grades 3-8) Wetaskiwin High school, 1936-1937, (grades 9-10) Academic. North Central High school 1937-1939 . This was a correspondence course for grades (10-11, Academic). His sport interests were hockey, baseball, rugby and softball. His hobbies were guns and mink farming. As William was still a student he carried out seasonal work. This was between 1936-1941 and he became a sawmill labourer for five consecutive winters for a Charles Freeman of Battle Lake. He then worked for two seasons helping others with their harvest and the last season assisting the postmaster, A.D. Steadman in Westerose, Alberta. |
William enlisted on 24 November 1941 and after training embarked for the U.K. where he arrived at 3PRC on24 March 1942. He was at 7 A.G. school on 27 May 1942, 19 OTU 2 June 1942, 35 Conversion Flt. 20 August 1942 and 35 Squadron on 28 September 1942. On 13 February 1943, William sadly lost his life. |
