Miscellaneous Information
Thomas was born at Lindsay, Ontario on 11 August 1923. Both parents were born at Lindsay and his father worked as a Yardmaster for C.N.R. He had a brother John and sisters Jeanett and Margaret; sadly Margaret died in April 1944. Thomas attended General Mercer school between 1929-1936 followed by Parkdale Collegiate Institute 1936- 1941, both in Toronto. He was an Art student. His main sport interest was hockey and his hobby was the radio. Between July 1941-August 1942 Thomas worked in the office of the flour millers, Maple Leaf Milling Company, Toronto. Also in 1942 he went on a C.O.T.C. course as a Private, at the University of Toronto. |
After enlisting on 31 October 1942 and undergoing initial training, he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 5 March 1944 arriving at 3PRC on 15 March. He then continued to 1(0) AFU 9 May 1944, 22 OTU 13 June 1944, 1664 CU 4 September 1944 and 432 Squadron 3 October 1944. Thomas very sadly lost his life just 12 days later on 15 October 1944. |
