Operation | Ulm. 330 aircraft, 2 Lancasters lost. This was the only raid on Ulm of the war. It was home to two lorry factories- Magirius-Deutz and Kassbohrer- and several other key manufacturing operations. The local population had been hurriedly evacuated just hours before this raid, so casualties were relatively light considering the size of the raid. 1449 tons of bombs were dropped and 707 people were killed. The local report stated that almost 82% of the town's property was in some way damaged. 20000-25000 people were bombed out. |
Reason for Loss | Cause of loss unknown. Crashed near Champigneul-Champagne, 15 km west of Chalons-sur-Marne. The crew were initially buried at Champigneul-Champagne. |
