Miscellaneous Information
Roy was born on 18 August 1922 at Vancouver, British Columbia. His father (who died 1938), was born in Arnaud, Winnipeg, and worked as a miner and his mother was born in Elmwood, Winnipeg. He had brothers Alan Fraser and Ross Alan. His schooling was at Britannia Mines, Public. 1928-1936 and then Kitsilano and Britannia Mines High. 1936-1940 (Jnr. Matric). His sporting interests were basketball, softball, rugby and skiing and he enjoyed model aeroplanes. Roy worked as a clerk at Britannia Stores in 1936, he was a painter at Britannia Mining and Smelting 1937-1938 as well as a Timberman and then, during 1941 he again worked as a timberman and also a warehouseman. |
He enlisted on 3 December 1941 and after training embarked for the U.K. on 15 February 1944. After arriving at 3PRC on 25 February 1944 he continued to 24 OTU on 7 March 1944, 61 Base 1 June 1944 and 427 Squadron on 12 July 1944. Sadly on 9 August 1944 Roy was to lose his life. |
