Miscellaneous Information
Eric was born on 3 March 1926 (although he had altered his birth certificate to 3 March 1924, allowing him to enlist). He was both at Moore Park, Manitoba. His father was born in Toronto and worked as a car salesman and his mother was born in Glasgow, Scotland where they had married in 1919. He had two brothers, Kenneth who was in the Canadian Army and Eric (the latter is almost certainly an error in the records). He also had sisters Betty, Lorain, Dorothy, June and Gloria. Eric attended Toronto High School 1930-1939 (General Course Junior Matric) grade 8. Hockey and baseball are the sports he enjoyed and his hobby was building models. He worked as a mechanic for Bob Thompson 1940-1942. |
Eric enlisted on 13 July 1942 and on 5 January 1943 he was embarking from New York for the U.K. He arrived at 3 PRC on 13 January 1943 then went through 7 AGS 24 February 1943, 1652 CU 14 March 1943, and 77 Squadron 26 March 1943. He was tragically killed on 7 September 1943 when he was still below the legal age of enlistment. |
His nephew reports that Kenneth bumped into Eric in London by chance and ordered him to 'get the hell home'. |
