Miscellaneous Information
Jack was born on 15 September 1920 at Halifax, Nova Scotia the son of Archibald William John Evelle and Muriel Bernadine Evelle (Hanrahan) of Vancouver. His father who had been a naval officer, was born at sea and his mother was born at Halifax NS. His father, now a civil servant, works as a postal clerk. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School 1929-1935 followed by Lord Byng High 1935-1939 (both in Vancouver). Jack enjoyed sports and had been a member of hockey, baseball, basketball, badminton and golf teams. For a hobby he made model aircraft as well as ship models. From 1936 onwards he was the head caddy of the University Golf Club. |
He enlisted on 19 June 1940 and on completion of his training was posted to the U.K embarking from Canada on 6 April 1941. After arrival at 3 PRC on 20 April 1941 he went to 12 OTU on 26 April and then to 150 Squadron on 19 June 1941. Jack was only twenty years old when he sadly lost his life on 31 July 1941. |
