Operation | Kiel. 382 aircraft- 17 Lancasters lost (4.6%). PFF marking was hampered by the use of smoke screens. Despite this, the local report details a very serious raid with concentrated bombing on the centre and surrounding districts. The fires were fanned by strong winds. 134 people were killed and 1002 injured. |
Reason for Loss | Shot down by a night-fighter flown by Uffz. Heinz Koch 12./NJG 3, 50 km NNW of Kiel at 23.21hrs and crashed at Güby, ESE of Schleswig, Germany. Those who perished were initially buried in Haddeby near Schleswig. Reinterred 25 April 1947. |
