Miscellaneous Information
John was born at Lethbridge, Alberta on 2 November 1923. His father was born in England and was a painter and decorator and his mother was born in London, England. He had one brother James as well as a sister Doris. He attended Fleetwood School, Lethbridge 1929-1937 and then Lethbridge Collegiate Institute 1937-1941 (Grade 11 /12). His hobbies were model aeroplanes and stamps and he joined in most sports as well as boxing and weightlifting. John worked as a Junior clerk at the Royal Bank, Lethbridge from April 1941 until enlisting at Calgary on 11 November 1941. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and after arriving at 3PRC went on to 22 OTU 30 June 1943, 1664 CU 16 September 1943, 431 Sqn. 18 October 1943 and finally 405 Squadron on 8 March 1944. Sadly John was to lose his life on 11 June 1944. |
