Miscellaneous Information
Edward was born at Tillsonburg, Ontario on 16 August 1924. His father was a farmer and both he and his mother were born at North Broadway, Tillsonburg. He had brothers Stewart, Charles, Lloyd and Richard as well as five sisters Hilda, Ruth, Olive, Evelyn and Esther. A sixth sister Leona had sadly died. He attended Tillsonburg Public School 1929-1937 followed by Tillsonburg High 1937-1940. Edward enjoyed playing rugby, and baseball and also liked to hunt and fish. He worked for the Eitel brothers at Tillsonbury as a truck driver before enlisting on 11 September 1942. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 1 November 1943 arriving at 3PRC on 10 November 1943. He then continued to 12 OTU on 14 December 1943, 31 Base 17 March 1944, 1653 CU 31 March 1944, and 90 Squadron on 18 May 1944. Very sadly, still only nineteen years old, Edward was to lose his life on 29 July 1944. |
