Miscellaneous Information
Born 31 December 1920 in Fulham, London. Ninth (and youngest) child of Albert Edward and Elizabeth Dye. Worked as a laundry worker before enlisting. |
Enlisted at Uxbridge on 3 August 1940. Posted to Cardiff on 22nd August 1940, Bircham Newton, Norfolk on 28th September 1940, Abbotsinch, Glasgow on 30th May 1941. Wireless Operator after initial Air Gunnery training at Stormy Down. He joined 150 Squadron at Snaith on 23 October 1941 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant (Wireless Operator/Air Gunner) on 31 December 1941 - his 21st birthday. |
Listed in the Memorial Book for 150 Squadron in the church of St. John the Baptist, Pollington-cum-Balne, near Snaith. His brother Sydney joined the East Surreys and was posted to Shanghai and latterly to Singapore. He died in the Alexandra Military Hospital in February 1942 when the Japanese troops attacked the Hospital and is buried in Kranji Cemetery, Singapore, where his headstone is inscribed WHOM GOD POSSESSETH NOTHING IS WANTING. |

Reason for Loss | Shot down by a night-fighter flown by Uffz. Heinz Vinke and his WOp/AG, Karl Schödel, of 5./NJG2 on the out-bound leg and crashed into the IJsselmeer. |
