Miscellaneous Information
George was born on 1 August 1912 at Toronto. His father was born in Greenock, Scotland, and was retired by the time of George's enlistment. His mother was born in Belfast, Ulster. He had a brother William John and a married sister Margaret. The schools he attended were Humber Heights, Etobicoke , 1920-1926, Weston Collegiate and Vocational, Weston, 1926-1928, and Danforth Technical 1942-1943. George worked at Massie Harris, Toronto (drafting) 1928-1930; at Satin Finish, Weston as a grader, 1928-1930; Moffats Ltd., Weston, Ontario as a burner 1930-1932; at MacDonald Manufacturing Co., Toronto (Set-up) 1933-1938; at Viceroy Manfg. Co., and lastly at Toronto (Time & Motion Study), 1938 -1943. His hobby was motor mechanics and sport interests hockey and baseball. |
He enlisted on 17 May 1943 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 1 November 1943 and arrived at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 10 November 1943, he then went to 23 OTU 23 November 1943 and 434 Squadron 18 March 1944. Sadly it was from there that George was to lose his life on 11 June 1944. |
