Miscellaneous Information
Stanley was born at Shaunavon, Saskatchewan on 27 May 1919. His father (who died in 1930) was born in Elora, Ontario and his mother was born in Manitoba. He had five brothers including John, Daniel and Maurice and also five sisters which included Bernice, Ila and Jean. A sixth sister Margaret, had died in infancy in 1926. He attended schools in Orange Valley: 1925-1931 at Orange Valley S.D. (Grade 8) followed by Orange Valley Continuation, Saskatchewan 1932-1933. His hobbies were softball and skating. Stanley worked on the family farm (proprietar Mrs. A. Driscoll, Elora, Ontario) between 1933-1937. In 1937-1939 he worked for John Kelly, also at Elora. 1939-1941 he was again on the Driscoll farm this time at Shaunam, Saskatchewan. Stanley then worked as a labourer at Callandar Foundry and Mfg. Co. at Guelph, 1941-1942. He also spent some time at the Ontario Reformatory in Guelph as a Guard during 1942. |
On 15 August 1942 Stanley enlisted and after training was sent to the U.K. He Embarked from Canada on 23 June 1943 and arrived at 3PRC on 2 July before going to 30 OTU 7 July 1943, 1651 CU 23 July 1943 and 218 Squadron on 18 August 1943. Sadly, it was from there that Stanley was to lose his life on 9 October 1943. |
