Miscellaneous Information
Thomas was born on 11 May 1922 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. His father, who was deceased by the time of Thomas' enlistment, was a carpenter and both he and his mother were born in England. He had three married sisters, Muriel, Nellie and Lillian. He went to Haultain School, Saskatoon 1930-1938 and Technical Collegiate, also Saskatoon 1938-1940. The sports he took part in were hockey, softball and football. Thomas undertook deliveries for Rogers Grocery Store for about four months and then for Hazen Twist Ltd., also a Grocery Store, as a clerk and delivery man until enlisting. |
He enlisted on 17 August 1942 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 16 June 1943, and was at 3 PRC on 24 June. He then went to 20 OTU on 5 July 1943 and RAF Dalton on 15 September. Sadly Thomas drowned whilst on duty, crossing a river at Shipton on Swale on 18 September 1943. |
