Joseph was born on 19 September 1918 at Herbert, Montreal, Quebec. His mother died in 1924. He had a sister Annette and two brothers Alvide Jean and Leo. One had died in 1920 and the other in 1934. He attended St. Viateur school in Montreal 1935–1938. He enjoyed playing baseball. Between 1938-1941 Joseph worked at the Provincial Bank in Montreal and then enlisted on 22 July 1941. After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 27 May 1943, arriving at 3 PRC on 5 June 1943. He was then at 82 OTU on 28 September 1943, 61 Base 17 January 1944, and 432 Squadron on 7 March 1944. |
