Miscellaneous Information
George was born on 7 June 1910 at Hamilton, Ontario. His father was a farmer, born in England and his mother was born in Germany. He had five brothers, Francis, Walter, Roy, Harry and Harold who was an LAC R/193202. George also had four more brothers who had so sadly died, one of whom was stillborn and two sisters, Jennie and Esther who had also died. The school he had attended was Hartford P.S., Ontario, 1916-1924. The sports he played were baseball, football and hockey. George worked in farming 1924-1927. Between 1927-1931 he worked as a Service Attendant for J.J. Greene, 1931-1938 for Frid Brothers as a labourer, and then for Canada Westinghouse Co. as a fitter 1938- 1942 (all in Hamilton). |
He enlisted on 12 August 1942 and after initial training George was posted to the U.K. He embarked from New York on 4 May 1943, arriving at 3PRC on 12 May. He was then at 19 OTU on 25 May 1943, 1652 CU 18 August 1943, and 77 Squadron on 6 September 1943. Sadly it was from there that George was to lose his life less than three weeks later on 28 September 1943. |
