Miscellaneous Information
Ernest was born on 26 June 1917 at Budapest, Hungary. Both parents were born in Budapest and his father was a forestry engineer. He had a brother Ronald Achilles who was in the 5th Canadian Armoured Division overseas and one sister Judith de Bartock (later Richardson). He attended both Woodland School 1927-1933 and Verdun High 1934-1936, then Montreal Technical school 1936-1937 to study aviation engines. His sport interests were rugby, track, baseball and hockey and he was captain of the gymnastics team. Between 1937-1939 he worked as a junior clerk for Guy Tombs Ltd. of Montreal. During 1939 -1940 as he was working as a pilot with a commercial aviation firm and then enlisted on 10 October 1940. |
He arrived at 3 PRC 15 September 1941, then proceeded to 19 OTU on 15 October 1941 and then 419 Squadron 24 February 1942. Sadly Ernest was to lose his life on 20 September 1942, shortly after his marriage. |
