Miscellaneous Information
Richard was born on 15 April 1924 at Montreal, Quebec. His father was the Vice President of Dawson Brothers and was born in London, England, his mother was born in Montreal. He was from a large family having four brothers aged between 12 years and 8 months as well as five sisters between 18 and 10 years old. The schools he attended were St. Ignatius of Lloyola, Montreal 1931-1938 and Lloyola College, Montreal, 1938-1941. His hobbies were model aircraft and electricity and he enjoyed all sports extensively. Richard worked at R.C. Ferry Command, Dorval, Québec as a Cargo Clerk between 1941-1942. He was also on a COTC course at Loyola College, Air Cadets, Montreal between 1939-1941. |
He enlisted on 13 November 1942 (now preferring to be known as Fabian Richard Dawson). After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 1 November 1943, arriving at 3(RCAF) PRC on 10 November 1943, 23 OTU on 23 November 1943 and 61 Base 19 March 1944. Very sadly just days after his 20th birthday, he lost his life on a non operational circuits and landings exercise at 1659 HCU in Yorkshire, due to engine failure. |
