Miscellaneous Information
Robert was born on 5 April 1922 at Perth County, Ontario. His father was deceased by the time of his enlistment and was born in Iowa, USA, as was his mother. He had two sisters, Edith Jean and Isabel Mitchel and a brother J/17910 F/O Hugh John Dawe RCAF. He attended Queen Victoria school, Toronto and then Central Technical School also in Toronto 1937-1939. Here he was able to study aircraft between 1937 and 1939. The sports he took part in were hockey, baseball, softball and lacrosse and his hobby was model aircraft design. Robert had a temporary job as an airport mechanic at Island Airport, Toronto during 1939 and also a temporary job working as a Truck driver 1939-1940. |
He enlisted on 14 October 1940 and after training was posted to the U.K. where he arrived at 3PRC on 1 July 1941. He then continued to 1SS on 7 July 1941 and then 22 OTU 14 October 1941. He was dangerously injured on 28 January 1942 and was admitted to hospital. His enlistment papers next show him at 10 OTU 30 October 1942. Sadly Robert then lost his life on 11 August 1943. |
