Miscellaneous Information
Ernest was born on 30 January 1923 at Webb, Saskatchewan. His father was born at Bolton, Ontario and was a farmer, his mother was born at Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. He had six sisters and three brothers, Ralph, Daniel and Wilf. He went to Saward District school 1929-1937 and then took a correspondence course from 1937-1939. Ernest’s sport interests were softball and skating and his hobby was anything to do with aircraft and flying. |
His occupation was harvesting which he undertook with various employers including his own family between 1939 and 1941, at which time he enlisted. After enlistment on 19 June 1942 and training, Ernest was posted to the U.K. and embarked from New York on 8 October 1943, arriving at 3PRC on 17 October. He then went to 1(0)AFU on 18 January 1944, 20 OTU 19 February 1944, 41 Base 18 May 1944 and to 102 Squadron on 8 July 1944. Ernest sadly lost his life on 16 January 1945. |
