Miscellaneous Information
James was born on 21 May 1922 in Dilke, Saskatchewan the son of Michael Joseph Daly and Bertha Evelyn (Wall) who were both born in Ireland. His father, who died before James enlisted, was a teacher. He attended St.Augustine, St.Joseph Separate school 1927-1934. Then Campion College, Regina, 1934-1939, and continued in 1939-1942. The sports James was interested in were hockey, rugby,, baseball, basketball and track events. James was in the Regina Rifles, June-September 1939, and the C.O.T.C. University of Saskatchewan, Regina, between September 1941-May 1942 as a Corporal. He worked as a clerk in the Civil Service Dept. of Education, Saskatchewan between June-August 1941 before returning to College. |
After enlisting on 6 June 1942, James embarked for the U.K. on 16 July 1943 arriving at 3 PRC on 23 July 1943. He then went to 6 (0) AFU 5 October 1943, 84 OTU 16 November 1943, 31 Base 10 March 1944, 1678 CU 20 April 1944 and 514 Squadron on 29 April 1944. |
