Miscellaneous Information
Henry was born on 12 December 1922 at Paris Brant County, Ontario. His father was born in Ontario and worked as a Triple Valve Tester and his mother was also born in Ontario, at Chatham. He attended Grand Avenue school 1928-1938 , Mimico High and Runnymede Collegiate 1938-1940, followed by Weston 1940-1941. His hobby was building model aircraft and the sports he played were baseball and rugby. He was still a student but also worked as a casual farm hand until enlisting. |
Henry enlisted on 28 February 1941. After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 27 October 1942, arriving at 3 PRC on 5 November 1942. He then continued to 20 OTU 16 November 1942, 1663 CU 24 March 1943, and 76 Squadron 30 April 1943. Sadly Henry was to lose his life on 24 May 1945. |

Operation | Dortmund. 826 aircraft- the largest since the 1000 bomber raids. 38 aircraft Lost (4.6%). PFF met with clear conditions and marked the target accurately, leading to a good raid. Much devastation was wreaked across large parts of the city. In particular the Hoesch steelworks were put out of action. 624 were killed. This was the last sizeable raid on Dortmund for exactly one year. |
Reason for Loss | Hit by flak, damaging the elevator controls. Succeeded in escaping the target area only to be shot down by a night-fighter and crashed at Broekland, Holland |
