Miscellaneous Information
Only the injured wireless operator Cyril Fairhall survived the crash and received medical attention from Doctor Schols in Werkendam. Afterwards he was taken prisoner by the Germans. It is said that he never recovered from his ordeal. Sgt Dobson's body was located still in his seat. Sgt Cooper’s body was found on the 5th August 1942 by Maarten van Elzelingen, who lived at the Loze Stoep. Three weeks later, Maarten also found the next, unknown body. The only thing found with the body was a cigarette case with the inscription F.A.W.T. The remains were buried as an unknown English airman on the 29th August. Given the initials F.A.W.T they were relatively certain that the body was that of Sgt Thorne. On the 25th February 1943 Sgt Fleming's body was found by Salomon Glerum and on March 25th, 1943 the last crewmember was found during the cutting of the reeds. It is not clear exactly when the Sgt Peel's body was located |
On 4th May each year, Remembrance Day in the Netherlands, the local community lay flowers at the graves of the crew. |
