Miscellaneous Information
David was born on 12 August 1914 at New Waterford, Nova Scoti. His father, a merchant, was born in Russia and his mother was born in Lithuania. He had two sisters and also four brothers: William, Sam, Henry and Ralph. The schools he attended were: Central, 1921-1929 (General) and Sydney Academy 1929-1936 (general). Also Mount Allison Uni. 1932-1936 (pre-engineering) and Nova Scotia Technical College 1936-1939 (engineering). David’s sport interests were tennis, softball, basketball and swimming and his hobby was building model aeroplanes. He worked at Montague Gold Mines, Dartmouth , Nova Scotia for three months in 1937 before returning to College. He then worked at Senore Gold Mines at Perron as a Shaftsman, for several months in 1939 and then Perron Gold Mines, Perron as an Engineer for about six months until enlisting in October 1940. |
After enlisting on 24 October and having completed his basic training, David embarked for the U.K.on 29 June 1941 and he arrived at 3PRC on 29 July 1941. He went on to 19 OTU on 3 August 1941, and 102 Squadron on 8 October 1941. David sadly lost his life from 102 Squadron on 17 June 1942 |
