Operation | Vohwinkel- to attack railway yards. 155 Lancasters from 3 Group, 2 lost (1.3%). G-H equipped raid. A strong wind carried the bombs south of the aiming point. No local report is available to comment on the damage. |
Reason for Loss | Crashed on Sommerstrasse 6, Solingen. Two airmen survived but were trapped in the wreckage- Woodrow and Watson. Most passers-by ignored their plea for help but Fritz Schulze instead shot them both dead. Schulze was tried and sentenced to death by hanging on 17 July 1947. |
