Miscellaneous Information
Roy was born at Maryfield, Saskatchewan on 6 July 1923. His father was a farmer born In Ontario and his mother was born at Antler, Saskatchewan. He had two brothers, Norman and Wilton as well as seven sisters. Two were married, one in RCAF and also Ruby, Patricia, Rhoda, and Bonnie. He attended Oatlands [unclear, seems to be written Datlands but no such school exists now] school 1929-1937. He worked as a Farm and Bush Tractor Operator and then became a Pulpwood loader for Pulpwood Supplies during 1942 until he was taken sick. He then worked as a truck driver 1942-1943 for J. Lahti, Lumber Merchant. |
Roy enlisted on 9 April 1943 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 1 November 1943 and was at 3 PRC on 10 November. He went on to 22 OTU on 14 December 1943 and 426 Squadron on 25 May 1944. Sadly Roy was to lose his life on 6 June 1944. |
