Miscellaneous Information
Robert was born on 28 October 1923 at Uno, Manitoba. His father was born in Forfarshire, Scotland and worked as a General Merchant (Storekeeper) and his mother was born in Kincardine, Scotland. He had brothers William, Donald, James Forbes and Boyd Murray. He also had sisters Margaret, Christine, Mary Ellen and Elizabeth Ann. He attended Public School 1928-1938. The sports he played were hockey, football and baseball. Robert worked for D. Carnegie, Union Bay, British Columbia, 1939-1942 and enlisted on 9 January 1943, at Winnipeg. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 5 March 1944 arriving at 3 RCAF (PRC) on 15 March. He was then at 22 OTU later that month, then 61 Base 9 August 1944, and 424 Squadron on 26 September 1944. Sadly Robert was to lose his life on 12 January 1945. |
